Glenfield Club History

Glenfield Softball Club was formed in August 1973 and consisted of only one adult team. This team didn’t have a uniform, they just played in their jeans and rugby shirts. There have been many changes of uniform since. Many of those original players then went on to become Foundation Members, and Long Service Members of our club and many still keep in contact with current players and committee. Some players have even gone on to greater things, helping to give softball a firm grip in New Zealand sports.

Over the 43 years since our club was created, it has under gone many changes. From one adult team in 1973 with no set clubrooms or playing grounds to some seasons with up to 12 junior teams, including Mini League teams (for players under 6 years old), Social Teams, Premiers and Reserve teams.

Glenfield Softball has always held a proud reputation of trying to place every player that register with us in a team suitable to their age and abilities. However, sometimes it does happen that we just can’t place a player in our own club due to overwhelming numbers, we will then will work with other North Harbour clubs to find a place for them elsewhere.

We truly believe that children especially should be playing some sport and are happy to help place them with other clubs. All our junior and social games are played every Saturday under North Harbour Softball Association at Rosedale Park, Albany.

We also encourage our teams to enter other tournaments that are played at other venues throughout the season.

OUR FUTURE AIMS

Our aim in past seasons has always been to have all of our players dressed in the same uniform, and with good quality gear to play with, thus increasing the enjoyment of the game, and to encourage more players to our club.

Thanks to grants from both North and South Trust for junior playing equipment, and from Infinity Foundation for junior uniforms in the 2010/2011 season we are well on our way to achieving that goal.As a club we are heading into the future with enthasium and commitment looking forward to many more years of softball.
